Wizard Chess questions and answers

Find practical information about access, devices, game modes, standard chess rules, and privacy before you begin a game.

Playing Wizard Chess

Is Wizard Chess free to play?

Yes. You can open Wizard Chess and play in your browser for free.

Can I play on a phone, tablet, or desktop browser?

Wizard Chess is designed for modern browsers on desktop and mobile devices. Performance and controls can vary by browser and device. For a smooth game, use an up-to-date browser and close resource-heavy background tabs if needed.

Do I need to install or download anything?

No separate installation is required. Visit the Wizard Chess home page and launch the game there. Because the game runs in a browser, you can start without downloading a desktop installer or mobile app package.

Which languages does Wizard Chess support?

The interface supports English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. The chess rules themselves are the same in every language. This help center is currently written in English.

Rules and game modes

Does Wizard Chess use standard chess rules?

Yes. Standard piece movement and special rules such as castling, en passant, promotion, checkmate, stalemate, and draws apply. Read our complete chess rules guide, the focused guide to castling, or the explanation of en passant.

Can I play against AI or with another person locally?

Use the game mode options currently shown on the home screen to choose from the available computer and local two-player modes. A local two-player game means both players use the same device and take turns; an AI game lets one player face the computer.

Privacy and advertising

What information does the game collect?
